a. A user did not initially authorize his/her computer with an Adobe ID.

b. A user has uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Digital Editions on a computer, but the previous installation has not been completely removed from the computer.

An eBook is configured to be installed and read on one computer/desktop/laptop/tablet/device. Two separate licenses are required for reading the same eBook on two computers/desktops/laptop/tablets/devices.

If you first open a download eBook using another software, the eBook will be disabled (or damaged) from being opened subsequently by the Adobe Digital Editions.

14. Why Digital Editions is adopted as the only software platform for reading our eBooks?

Digital Editions utilizes Adobe PDF technology that has been optimized for small code size and lower system requirements. It is optimized for performance and onscreen readability.

15. Why do some PDF documents look different in Digital Editions than they do in Acrobat and Reader?

Digital Editions utilizes Adobe PDF technology that has been optimized for small code size and lower system requirements. It is optimized for performance and onscreen readability, rather than graphic arts or prepress-level fidelity. As a result, some minor differences in graphics and font rendering are to be expected. In addition, the Digital Editions PDF implementation does not support several enterprise-oriented PDF features. These features are not typically used in PDF-based eBooks, and if present, they are ignored but may cause certain documents to render incorrectly.

The Adobe Digital Editions is the state-of-the-art technology for engineering and mathematical eBooks. If a Windows computer is used to install and open Digital Editions’ eBooks, this minor difference (if appears) could be removed by returning to the page of concern, but if not, the original content usually remains recognizable. However, if a Macintosh computer is used to install and open Digital Editions’ eBooks, the above rendering issue has never been reported.

16. What PDF language profile is supported by Adobe Digital Editions?

Digital Editions supports a superset of ISO standard 19005-1 (PDF/A). PDF/A is designed to support more secure, long-term information archiving; it is based on a subset of PDF 1.4 (the version of PDF supported by Acrobat 5.0). Additional PDF capabilities in Digital Editions beyond PDF/A include basic encryption, DRM-based encryption, JBIG2 image compression, transparency, and compressed object streams. The intention is to support PDF features reasonably needed by eBooks and other commercially published content, balancing 100% coverage with a focus on small size and high performance.

17. Scope of Support

Each eBook is subscribed for installation on one computer/desktop/laptop/tablet/device. Any attempt to move the first successful installation to another computer/desktop/laptop/tablet/device or any issue after the first successful installation of an eBook is outside the scope of support.
